Our Montessori Approach
A proven, child-centred method that nurtures curiosity and independence.
The Montessori Method
A child-centred approach
Maria Montessori, born in Italy in 1870, was the first woman in her country to receive a medical degree. She opened the first "Casa dei Bambini" (Children's House) in 1907 and developed a revolutionary approach to early childhood education.
The Montessori Method recognizes that children between the ages of 2 and 6 have an "Absorbent Mind" — a unique ability to learn from their environment without conscious effort. During this period, children pass through "sensitive periods" when they are especially receptive to certain types of learning.
Our program honours these natural developmental stages by providing a carefully prepared environment where children can explore, discover, and learn at their own pace, guided by trained Montessori educators.

The Learning Environment
Unlike a traditional classroom, the Montessori environment is designed to be a home away from home. Our classroom is arranged by subject area — cooking, cleaning, gardening, art, animals, library, math, and science — allowing children to move freely and choose their own work.
Our building is spacious and bright, with spectacular views of the North Shore mountains. A covered porch extends our learning space outdoors, supporting our active play program rain or shine.
